Hey everyone,

I have been doing a lot of article marketing this week do drive more free traffic to my website, however I have not been driving this traffic directly to my video so I haven’t even reached 200 views on my traffic challenge! The beard is starting to get annoying! At least during November I have the whole Movember excuse… It’s a bit of a cheat but hey!

Article Marketing has been working well for me so far although I need to sign up to a few more directories. It is a very simple process and doesn’t take too much time. I have been using Google docs to write my articles so I have been able to work on it wherever I am (work, home, traveling with my phone.) This also means it is really easy to copy and paste the articles to the submission directories.

Writing your Article

The best way to start is to write a short article of around 500 words and try to answer one specific question. If you try to answer too much in an article it will be had to pick exactly where to place it and it also wont rank as well for keywords. The more specific the better. If you are already a member of some forums in your niche then do a quick post in there with your article and ask them to comment on it. How they would change it, what they would add etc.

Submitting your Article

Once you have your article ready to submit make sure you add a resource section. Some services have a separate box for this and others you will need to include it at the bottom of the article. This resource section should have a link back to your website/s with a call to action. Something like “for more free information check out my website at…” and include a link. When people use your article this link will then be included at the bottom and your article may spread far and wide with your link included.

The next step is to start submitting to the directories. I would start with the free ones as they still do a great job of getting your article “out there.” I personally use the following;

  • Article Rich
  • SearchWarp
  • ArticleDashboard
  • Articles888
  • ezineArticles
    • Obviously this is not a fully comprehensive list of article submission directories but it is enough to get you started. Some of these services have a paid option to become a premium member and this means your articles will be submitted quicker and to more places, therefore giving you more exposure. Don’t worry if you can’t afford this yet though as the basic service is usually fine.

      Finishing up

      Once you have submitted you article to a number of directories there is nothing more you need to do although some services request that you look at other articles on their service and comment on them to build up a community. I strongly advise you do this as not only does it help to build up your profile but you also learn a great deal. I am still in decision about whether or not to post my articles to my website, it would be great to hear your comments on this.

      On a side note I am off to the World Internet Summit next week over in Heathrow. If you want to get there to I believe there are still some tickets for sale right here but be quick as I don’t know how many spots are available! Don’t panic if you can’t get there though as I will have all the video material for sale afterwards and I of course will be taking comprehensive notes throughout the weekend. I really hope I can share some great tips with you all when I get back.
