Internet Marketers Code of Ethics
I originally had this as a page but I decided that this needs to be out in front not hidden away in the pages of my blog so here it is!
Thanks to Ken Harthun from the InternetMarketingGeek.com for bringing this to my attention. There are too many bad eggs out there on the net and I hope this code can spread far and wide to try and bring some ethics to the online community. I for one already follow this code and will not stray from it. It is in its early days and will grow and change as the industry does but it is definitely a step in the right direction. I hope you can all get something out of this.
General Conduct
1. I will not knowingly misrepresent myself or the products I am promoting.
2. I will not knowingly deceive my customers.
3. I will, at all times, treat my customers, my clients and my peers with due respect as they have earned and deserve.
4. I will comply with all applicable laws and regulations.
5. I will honor all guarantees and issue prompt refunds according to the terms I have stated without question.
6. I will support and promote this Internet Marketer’s Code of Ethics.
Promotions
1. I will refrain from using deceptive and/or misleading headlines, email subject lines and testimonials.
2. Headlines, subject lines and testimonials will be relevant to the product I am promoting and relevant to the content of my promotional materials.
3. I will avoid high-pressure and/or manipulative sales tactics.
4. I will deliver everything I promise in my sales materials.
Communications
1. I will inform my prospects and customers of the frequency of communication they can expect of me.
2. I will adhere to those expectations.
3. I will treat all communications to my customers and prospects as if I am communicating with them in person.
Miscellaneous
1. I will never deprive someone of an affiliate commission they deserve or have earned.
2. I will abide by the license restrictions for all resale products I acquire.
3. I will not engage in excessive, irritating or deceptive entrance/exit popups.
4. I will address all customer service/support requests in a timely manner.
This code will no doubt be questioned and it will, as a result of the normal course of human emotion and reaction, evolve. But, we have here a starting point from which to proceed.
If you are in agreement with this code, tell every marketer you know about it and get them on board. It’s our business to take care of our business. Post your comments and suggestions and feel free to contact me directly. It’s time to take a stand.
If you cant make money online in an honest manor then you shouldn’t be doing it at all. If you were trading in a shop or on a market stall you wouldn’t try and sell a chocolate teapot to someone as a functioning teapot would you!! Think about it!

Simon,
The chocolate teapot comment was clever. I hadn’t heard that before. I may use it somewhere down the track. LOL!
Yes, Ken’s article was very good. I included that in my November newsletter.

Thanks, it was one of those rare moments of clarity for me! it was either that or a chocolate fireguard but I thought the teapot would work better. Your November newsletter is a great read too! thanks for that.
Hi Simon,
Great topic of post you have here and fantastic use of the chocolate teapot example.
Keep up the great work!!!

That chocolate teapot seems to be tickling quite a few people!! It’s amazing what those little moments of clarity can bring out in you!
Thanks for the comment!
Hey Simon,
I wish they were all good eggs out there, it would have saved a lot of us plenty of our hard earned cash, it makes me mad when people are taken for a ride.
It is our duty to get this code out there, good move mate.
I cannot leave without mentioning the Chocolate Teapot, so I will just say my wife would love one, where do you get them from
Regards
Rob
Feel free to put it on your website as well! It is released under the creative commons license.
I used to have a collection of chocolate teapots but I either melted them or ate them and cant find a good retailer of them anymore! I may have to start manufacturing them myself at this rate!
Thanks
Simon
Well, this is a great guide for every marketer. I just hope that all those spammy type marketers find it and decide to follow it. It will clear a lot of waste from internet!

Sorry I missed replying to your comment, feel free to share this code as it is released under the Creative Commons License so we can all have this on our sites. Maybe one day something like this will be mandatory for online marketers then everyone will be able to see immediately if you are a legitimate resource!
Thanks for dropping by,
Simon
Great post Simon and boy did you hit the nail on the head. If only everyone would adhere to what you listed then this would be a perfect world. Too bad that will never happen. I am just proud to say that I abide by these same code of ethics and I sleep very well at night.
Will definitely share your post with others and thanks for pointing this out.
Adrienne
Thanks Adrienne,
It is available for everyone to copy under the creative commons license so feel free to post this on your blog as well.
thanks for stopping by,
Simon
Hi Simon,
Thanks for the comment on my blog
It got me over here to read another excellent post – to it was well worth while
Now I need to find time and space to slot the code onto my site too I reckon….
As for choclate teapots .. I’m guessing the visitors who were so tickled aren’t from the UK …lol (Opportunity to sell them one there .. could grow into a big site???…hehe)
Hope to catch you again soon
Warm Regards

Interestingly your comment ended up in my spam folder but I found you so don’t panic! Just thought you might like to know… I have had teapot comments from around the world, I’m thinking of having a wide range from teacups and pots to fireguards and oven gloves!
Between us all we can get rid of those unethical ones! I have some videos that I wasn’t going to put online but after reading all these related posts regarding the unethical types I may have to put them up after all!!
Thanks again for stopping by!

Hallo Simon –
Thanks for posting this. I’m looking to create one for my own site. So this looks like one I can adopt, and tweak to taste.
The movement of ethical Internet Marketers is growing.
The market is fed up of shenanigans.
Those who are in it purely to make money (at any cost), will be weeded out. They may leave the game with their millions, but that still doesn’t mean I’ll adopt their tactics to get rich quickly.
I’m in it to change myself, and the world around me.
Peace!

This is actually released under the creative commons license so you can take it for your blog if you like. I copied it from someone else who copied it from someone else. It is good that there are some of us leaning this way. Maybe one day we can get rid of all the scammers and cheats and have a happy internet again!
Thanks again for stopping by.
