This website, simon-dodd.com, is operated by Simon Dodd Web Design. We are committed to ensuring this website is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of technology or ability.

1. Our commitment

We actively work to increase the accessibility and usability of this website and in doing so adhere to many of the available standards and guidelines. Accessibility is not an afterthought — it is built into every project we produce, including this one.

We want everyone who visits simon-dodd.com to have an equal experience, whether they use a keyboard, screen reader, voice control software, or any other assistive technology.

2. Conformance status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. This website aims to conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA.

We believe this site is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA, meaning some aspects of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard. Known limitations are listed in section 4 below.

3. Technical standards

This website has been built using the following accessibility practices:

✓
Semantic HTML5 elements with correct heading hierarchy
✓
ARIA landmark roles on all major page regions
✓
Descriptive alt text on all meaningful images
✓
All form inputs have associated <label> elements
✓
Keyboard navigable — all interactive elements reachable via Tab
✓
Colour contrast ratios meet WCAG AA minimums
✓
No content relies on colour alone to convey meaning
✓
Skip navigation not required — single-page layout
✓
Responsive design — usable at 320px width and above
✓
No content flashes more than three times per second

4. Known limitations

Despite our best efforts to ensure accessibility, there may be some limitations. Below is a description of known issues. Please contact us if you observe an issue not listed below.

  • Decorative animations — the scrolling security marquee strip uses CSS animation. Users with a preference for reduced motion (prefers-reduced-motion) will see the animation paused in a future update.
  • External links — portfolio links open in a new tab. These are labelled with aria-label attributes, but some screen readers may not announce the new-tab behaviour by default.
  • Google Fonts — this site loads fonts from Google Fonts. Users who block third-party requests may see fallback system fonts, which does not affect usability.

We are actively working to address these limitations. If you experience any barriers not listed here, please let us know using the contact details in section 6.

5. Assistive technologies

This website has been tested for compatibility with the following assistive technologies:

  • NVDA screen reader with Firefox (Windows)
  • VoiceOver with Safari (macOS and iOS)
  • Keyboard-only navigation (Chrome, Firefox, Safari)
  • Windows High Contrast Mode
  • Browser zoom up to 200% without loss of content or functionality

If you use a different assistive technology and encounter problems, please get in touch and we will do our best to resolve the issue.

6. Feedback & contact

We welcome feedback on the accessibility of this website. If you experience any barriers to access, or if you would like to request content in an alternative format, please contact us:

We aim to respond to accessibility feedback within 5 business days and to resolve issues within 30 days where it is reasonably within our control to do so.

7. Enforcement

If you are not satisfied with our response to your accessibility feedback, you may contact the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC), which is responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 in Great Britain. Note that as a private sole trader, the full scope of these regulations may not apply to this website; however we are committed to meeting them in spirit.

This statement was prepared on June 2025 and will be reviewed annually or following any significant update to the website.
